Published

October is the month Cádiz turns from beach town back into a city. Afternoons still reach the mid-20s, the rain returns in earnest, and the sights switch to their winter timetables. This page covers only that month: what the weather does, what to expect from the sea, and what you can count on being open.

For the whole-year picture, use the best time to visit Cádiz guide. For what comes after, Cádiz in winter picks up where this page stops.

October weather in numbers

AEMET's normal values for the Cádiz station put October at a mean temperature of 20.3 °C. The average daily high is 23.4 °C and the average low is 17.3 °C, so you can sit outside at lunch in a shirt and want a layer after dark.

Rain is the change. The station records 67 mm in October across about 5.6 days with at least 1 mm, against 24 mm in September and 98 mm in November. Relative humidity averages 74%, thunderstorms occur on about 1.3 days, and about 8.9 days are fully clear. Sunshine totals 228 hours, down from 252 in September and 187 in November.

Averages, not a forecast

These are long-run normals. A given October can be dry and hot or soaked by a stalled front, so check AEMET's forecast for Cádiz a few days before you travel and keep your plans easy to reorder.

The sea and beach days

Searches for this month often ask for a sea temperature. There is no official October figure to quote: AEMET's normals cover the air, not the water. What can be said is that the Atlantic holds less warmth than the air above it, and a swim is a short, brisk one. The current reading for the day is on AEMET's beach forecast for Cádiz.

Beach days still work, mostly as sun and sand rather than long swims. La Caleta sits in the old town, and Playa Victoria runs for 2,800 metres along the seafront promenade. The council uses a three-flag system: red means no bathing, yellow means caution, and green means good conditions. Obey the flag over the thermometer.

Two rules from the council's beach pages matter on an autumn walk. Pets are not allowed on any of the municipal beaches, so a dog cannot join you on the sand. And if a current pulls you out to sea, the council's advice is not to swim against it. Swim parallel to the shore instead. In an emergency, alert the lifeguards, the municipal police on 091, or 112.

Which beach suits which day, and how the wind changes the choice, is covered in our guide to the beaches of Cádiz.

What is open

The big change on 1 October is the timetable, not the list. The sights below are open, on winter hours.

Torre Tavira

Torre Tavira lists 10:00 to 18:00 from October to April, and last admission is one hour before closing. Visits are by prior booking made on the tower's own site, and the tower says advance booking is essential, so reserve before you arrive.

The Roman theatre

The Roman theatre moves to its winter timetable on 1 October: Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 16:30 and Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00. It is closed on the first Monday of every month, and on 1 and 2 November. The Junta de Andalucía also states that access to the excavation itself is temporarily restricted while extension works continue, so the interpretation centre is the part to plan around. Contact the site before you visit.

Castle of San Sebastián

The Castle of San Sebastián is listed by the council as open every day from 9:00 until sunset, with free entry. Sunset comes earlier through October, and the council notes the hours can change with the weather, so go in the morning or early afternoon and look at the sky first. The seafront walk that leads there is free whatever the opening hours.

Restaurants, bars and shops keep no single published timetable. Check the venue's own page or ask at the tourist office, particularly on 1 November, a public holiday when the Roman theatre is closed.

A wet-day plan

With about 5.6 rain days in the month, expect one or two disrupted days on a week-long trip. Keep one fixed point per day and let the rest move.

  1. Book the Torre Tavira slot for a clear morning, since the camera obscura needs sun.
  2. Keep the Roman theatre centre and the museums for the wet afternoon.
  3. Use the two-day itinerary as a base and swap its outdoor stops for indoor ones.
  4. If the whole day is lost, a train or boat to the bay towns is a better use of it. The day trips guide compares them.

Cruise passengers calling in October have a separate walking plan in the cruise port day guide.

Events in October

No October 2026 event with an official date was available from the council's tourism pages when this guide was written, so none is listed here. Look at the Ayuntamiento's cultural programme before you book, and treat any date you find elsewhere as unconfirmed until it appears there.

The city's headline festival is a few months away. Carnival is covered in the Cádiz Carnival guide, which is the page to read if you are choosing between October and February.

Questions about Cádiz in October

What is the weather like in Cádiz, Spain, in October?

Warm by day, mild at night and with the first real rain of autumn. AEMET's normal values for the Cádiz station give a mean daily high of 23.4 °C, a mean low of 17.3 °C, 67 mm of rain over about 6 days and 228 hours of sunshine for the month.

What is the temperature in Cádiz, Spain, in October?

The monthly mean is 20.3 °C. Afternoons average 23.4 °C and nights 17.3 °C, so a light jacket for the evening is enough. Individual days vary around those averages.

What is the sea temperature in Cádiz in October?

No official figure is published in the normals this guide relies on: AEMET's table covers the air, not the water. Treat the Atlantic as cooler than the air, check the day's beach flag before you swim, and look at AEMET's beach forecast for Cádiz for the current reading.

Can you still go to the beach in Cádiz in October?

Yes, for sun and walking, and for a swim on a calm day. The air is warm enough, the council's beaches stay open and Playa Victoria runs for 2,800 metres, but the council's flag system decides each day: red means no bathing, yellow means caution and green means good bathing conditions.

Is it rainy in Cádiz in October?

It is the month the rain returns. October has 67 mm on average, against 24 mm in September, and 5.6 days with at least 1 mm. November is wetter again at 98 mm, so October is the last easy month for outdoor plans.

What is open in Cádiz in October?

The main sights are open on their winter timetables. Torre Tavira lists 10:00 to 18:00 from October to April by prior booking, the Roman theatre's interpretation centre lists 10:00 to 16:30 Monday to Saturday from 1 October, and the Castle of San Sebastián lists free entry from 9:00 until sunset. Check each site before you go, because hours change with the weather.
