A La Viña tapas bar off the busiest stretch
Casa Pepe sits at Calle de la Rosa 28, on a street away from the most touristy part of La Viña. A 2026 Cádiz food guide calls it one of the few La Viña tapas bars not yet taken over by visitors, and a Carnaval guide describes a neighbourhood bar open since 1981. It still fills up, because the tapas list is long and cheap. If you want the better-known name nearby, Casa Manteca is the obvious comparison; Casa Pepe is the quieter one.
What to order
The daily marine stews are the point. The guides single out tuna a la barbateña, swordfish a la roteña and chickpeas with prawns, and the Carnaval guide adds chocos stew with potatoes, clams a la marinera and hake pavías. Meatballs and menudo (tripe) are on the list too. Stews are the daily specials, so ask what is on rather than expecting every dish every day. If fried fish is what you came for, read up on pescaito frito first and order it here as a side to the stews.
Timing and the queue
The room is very small and there is usually a queue, though a guide says it moves quickly. Reservations are not accepted. One guide says the bar opens for lunch only, Tuesday to Sunday; exact opening times could not be confirmed, so treat that as a guide's description rather than a posted timetable and arrive early, especially in Carnaval season when the La Viña bars sit on the groups' itinerary.
