A beach hotel, not an old-town one
The Hotel Playa Victoria is the Cádiz stay for people who want sand and sea first and the old town second. It is a four-star hotel with 188 rooms, and the city tourism board places it on the first line of the beach with direct access to the sand. It opened in its current form on 19 March 1994 and is the work of architect José de Yarza Nordmark, with interiors by Pascua Ortega. The hotel belongs to the Palafox group.
That location shapes everything else. The hotel sits in Extramuros away from the walls: one review puts the Cádiz Cathedral about eight minutes away by car, with buses stopping outside the front door and reaching the centre in under 15 minutes. Treat the old town as a taxi or bus ride rather than a stroll. If you want to wake up inside the walls, Hotel Casa de las Cuatro Torres is the better match.
What you get on the beach side
The hotel has an outdoor pool and a solarium at beach level. The pool is freshwater, and a review notes that it overlooks the beach. The pool is seasonal, so confirm the opening dates with the hotel before planning a winter stay around it. Loungers on the sand are listed as part of the setup, and whether they are free or charged can change with the season, so ask at reservation.
Every room has a terrace and at least a partial ocean view according to the tourism board and one review, and a panoramic sea view can cost extra. Food and drink are on site: the Isla de León restaurant serves Cádiz and international cooking, Bar Neptuno is the lobby-level bar, and the hotel lists free wifi, meeting and event rooms and private parking. Parking carries a fee, so ask for the current tariff. The hotel has no fitness centre.
Practical details
The hotel is pet friendly, but weight limits and nightly fees are set by the hotel, so ask before you bring a dog. Check-in and check-out times and the reception hours are also best confirmed directly with the hotel on +34 956 20 51 00.
For the old town, a day on foot from La Caleta to the Castillo de Santa Catalina is the natural pairing with a beach base, and the classic lunch is pescaito frito. Rates are not published here, so check dates with the hotel before you commit.
