An 1859 merchant's rooftop on Calle San Francisco
Up on the fourth floor of Hotel Las Cortes de Cádiz at Calle San Francisco, 9, Terraza Mirador Las Cortes occupies the roof of a 19th-century Casa-Palacio de Cargadores a Indias. Built for the Marqués de la Cañada to oversee his maritime trade and finished in 1859, the house later operated as La Fonda de París, where Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen stayed during his 1862 visit to the city. Rising above the terrace is a 19th-century Torre Mirador once used by lookouts scanning the Port of Cádiz for cargo vessels arriving from the Americas.
From the open-air terraza-solárium, a 360º panorama takes in the old town rooftops and bay:
- Torre Tavira and the octagonal Bella Escondida watchtower across the historical quarter
- The dome of Cádiz Cathedral across El Pópulo and the ships at the Port of Cádiz
- The 1812 Constitution Bridge (Puente de La Constitución de 1812) spanning the bay
Wines, mojitos and sunset drinks
Rather than a noisy late-night club, the rooftop operates as an open-air chill-out bar built around atardeceres gaditanos (Cádiz sunsets). The bar pours wines by the glass and mixed cocktails, and guests single out the evening mojitos and fair, standard drink prices. You can also hire the terrace for private open-air gatherings served with aperitivos under the evening sky.
Lift access, bookings and practicalities
A lift serves every floor of the building from the courtyard below, steps from the Oratorio de San Felipe Neri. While smoking is banned inside all hotel rooms and interior common areas, the fourth-floor rooftop is the only outdoor space in the property where smoking is permitted.
